DG Barristers hosts Lecture by Prof. Jan Neels in honour of the Hon. Anthony Gubbay SC

On January 30, 2023, DG Barristers held an event hosted by George Douvelos celebrating the Hon. Anthony Roy Gubbay SC. Prof. Jan Neels from the University of Johannesburg delivered the first Gubbay Lecture on the topic: “The African principles on the law applicable to international commercial contracts”. Special guests included Supreme Court of British Columbia Chief Justice Hinkson, Prof. Daleen Millard (Dean of TRU Faculty of Law), and Prof. Emeritus Joost Blom (UBC Faculty of Law).

Thomas Arbogast and Kate Kirkpatrick in the BC Court of Appeal

R. v. TALLIO

On October 13, 2020, Thomas Arbogast and Kate Kirkpatrick as part of the legal team resumed the hearing of the appeal brought by Mr. Phillip James Tallio from his 1983 murder conviction. The final arguments will take place during the week of November 23rd. Written arguments (factums) are posted on the BC Court of Appeal website.

George Douvelos was successful in a leading Canadian case on public misfeasance

A civil suit filed by Rain Coast Water Corp. claimed the company experienced “mistreatment by the Government of British Columbia through actions of Premier Vander Zalm, several Cabinet Ministers and a number of civil servants,” in the 1980s and early 1990s, according to reasons for judgment handed down Thursday.

Rain Coast Water Corp. v. Her Majesty the Queen in Right of the Province of British Columbia, 2016 BCSC 845 (CanLII). Was overturned by the Court of Appeal.
